Shine LA Continues to Inspire Civic Participation By Bring Angelenos Together In Service
Mayor Karen Bass led the Shine LA initiative, bringing together volunteers for community service across various neighborhoods in Los Angeles, including Boyle Heights and Rampart Village. The program aims to enhance civic participation and pride ahead of significant global events. Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson emphasized that collaboration leads to lasting community impact, while Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez noted the importance of collective responsibility for neighborhood safety. Bass also participated in care package preparation for families affected by recent immigration raids, demonstrating her commitment to immigrant rights. Since its inception in April, Shine LA has mobilized thousands of Angelenos at over 40 service sites.
The initiative serves as a model for community engagement, fostering partnerships among local congregations. Bass plans to continue hosting similar gatherings to strengthen community ties. Angelenos can visit the mayor's website to sign up for notifications about future Shine LA events.
