Mayor Bass Issues Statement Following Release of LAFDs After-Action Review Report

In response to the Palisades Fire, Mayor Karen Bass outlined the Los Angeles Fire Department's (LAFD) operational improvements following the release of the After-Action Review Report. The report highlights both effective actions and challenges encountered during the crisis. Since January 2025, LAFD has implemented 19 leadership changes to strengthen its command structure, including appointing Interim Fire Chief Ronnie Villanueva. Enhanced protocols for recalling staff during Red Flag Warnings aim to ensure all available resources are mobilized in emergencies. Communication advancements, such as integrating Starlink technology, will help maintain information flow during crises.

Mayor Bass reaffirmed the city's commitment to supporting displaced families as they navigate the aftermath of the disaster. Additionally, LAFD is innovating training practices to better prepare firefighters for wildfire responses and evacuations. These measures reflect a comprehensive strategy to bolster the city’s emergency preparedness for future natural disasters.
