Mayor Bass Joins Leaders To Break Ground on LA Convention Center Expansion

Mayor Karen Bass announced the commencement of the LA Convention Center expansion today, a key project aimed at revitalizing Downtown Los Angeles. The expansion seeks to position LA as a competitive destination for global events and enhance tourism. Bass expressed gratitude to the City Council and labor leaders for their support, underscoring the economic opportunities and job creation expected from the project. Furthermore, the LAPD will implement foot and bike patrols to enhance safety in Downtown neighborhoods. Mental health teams will also be deployed in high-priority areas to address community needs.

The initiative includes plans to expedite key permits for Downtown developments and improve public space cleanliness. Bass has consistently advocated for this expansion during her State of the City addresses. This project is seen as a vital step toward restoring Downtown LA's status as a cultural and economic hub.
