Mayor Bass, Philanthropic Leaders Celebrate Reopening of Casa Gateway Housing Complex For Seniors and Families After Completion of Remediation Work
Mayor Karen Bass celebrated the reopening of Casa Gateway, a housing complex for seniors and families, after remediation efforts addressed fire and mudslide damage. Local leaders from organizations including CORE and the California Community Foundation joined the Mayor to highlight collaborative recovery efforts in the Pacific Palisades community. Mayor Bass emphasized the importance of restoring stability and hope for residents displaced by the Palisades Fire. CORE's CEO, Ann Lee, expressed appreciation for the partnership in supporting Los Angeles neighborhoods during crises. The remediation work included smoke damage repair, insulation replacement, and community space renovations, funded by the Mayor’s Office.
This initiative demonstrates how government, philanthropy, and community can effectively address urgent needs. The recovery operation is projected to be the fastest in California's history, with rebuilding permits being approved significantly faster than pre-fire rates. Nearly 800 rebuilding plans have already been approved, showcasing a robust response to the disaster.
