Mayor Bass Joins LA28 and Highland Electric Fleets in Announcing Historic Partnership to Further Sustainability and Games Delivery Goals Ahead of the 2028 Games
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced a partnership with LA28 and Highland Electric Fleets to deploy 500 electric school buses for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The buses will replace those that would usually be out of service during the summer, enhancing transport operations while ensuring a zero-emission approach. Bass stated that this partnership exemplifies sustainable solutions and aims to leave a lasting positive impact on the community. Highland Electric Fleets CEO Duncan McIntyre noted that this initiative represents one of the largest electric bus deployments for a global sporting event. Mayor Bass has been proactive in preparing Los Angeles for the Games, including the completion of significant renewable energy projects, such as the Eland Solar-plus-Storage Center.
The city has installed nearly 21,000 new EV chargers since her tenure began, doubling the total to almost 41,000. Additionally, LADOT operates one of the largest electric transit bus fleets in the country, further supporting the city's sustainability goals. This commitment to electrification underscores Los Angeles's ambition to create a greener future for its residents.
