Inside Safe Brings Angelenos Inside From Encampment in South LA
Mayor Karen Bass announced that more Angelenos have successfully transitioned from a South LA encampment to indoor living, enhancing community safety. The Inside Safe initiative, which focuses on providing care and personalized case management, has been instrumental in this effort. Councilmember Curren Price praised the initiative for restoring vital community spaces and improving residents' quality of life. Brotherhood Crusade's Charisse Bremond Weaver expressed gratitude for the program's support in relocating unhoused women and children. Since Mayor Bass took office in December 2022, street homelessness has decreased by 17.
5%, the largest reduction since the Point in Time Count began in 2005. Additionally, permanent housing placements in Los Angeles City have reached an all-time high. The RAND Corporation reported a 49% decline in street homelessness in Hollywood, linking it to the Inside Safe program's effectiveness. This initiative has resolved over 100 entrenched encampments across the city, highlighting Bass's commitment to addressing homelessness.
