Mayor Bass Directs City Departments to Prepare for Expected High Temperatures Later This Week, Augmented Cooling Centers Will Open to Keep Angelenos Safe

The National Weather Service has declared an Extreme Heat Watch for Los Angeles from August 20 to August 23, with temperatures expected to soar to 108°F in the San Fernando Valley. In preparation, Mayor Karen Bass has mobilized city departments to implement safety measures, which include opening augmented cooling centers across the city. These centers will be operational from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM and will provide relief to residents during the heatwave. The cooling centers are designed to be accessible for individuals with disabilities and those with special needs. Additionally, the Los Angeles Fire Department is on alert due to a Fire Weather Watch issued for areas outside the city, emphasizing the need for fire preparedness.
