Mayor Bass Appoints Board of Public Works President Steve Kang as City Film Liaison

Mayor Karen Bass appointed Steve Kang as the Mayor’s Liaison to the Film and Television Industry, effective immediately, to enhance local production in Los Angeles. Kang will implement strategies that simplify the permitting process and reduce costs for studios and independent producers. His extensive knowledge of city infrastructure and strong relationships with department leaders will aid in addressing industry needs. Mayor Bass highlighted Kang's potential to protect and expand local filming opportunities, emphasizing the importance of the entertainment sector to the city's economy. The initiative also aligns with the expansion of the California Film & TV Tax Credit, which aims to retain production jobs in Los Angeles.

Kang’s responsibilities include engaging with industry stakeholders and troubleshooting filming issues. He previously oversaw the city's contract with FilmLA, giving him direct insight into the permitting process. This appointment continues Mayor Bass's efforts to ensure Los Angeles remains a key player in the entertainment industry.
