As Extreme Heat Warning is Extended Through Sunday, Mayor Bass Highlights City Resources, Actions to Keep Angelenos Safe
The National Weather Service has extended the Extreme Heat Warning for Los Angeles until Sunday, August 24, due to persistent high temperatures. Mayor Karen Bass emphasized the importance of safety, urging residents to limit outdoor exposure and check on their neighbors. City departments, including the LAFD, LAPD, and Emergency Management, are prepared to respond to emerging needs and have opened augmented cooling centers throughout the city. These centers provide relief from the heat and are accessible to individuals with disabilities. Public pools and splash pads will remain open to offer additional cooling options for residents.
The LAFD has pre-deployed resources in high-hazard areas to monitor fire risks associated with the heat. Residents are encouraged to sign up for alerts and stay informed about weather conditions. Safety tips include staying hydrated and recognizing symptoms of heat-related illnesses.
