As Extreme Heat Warning is Extended Through Sunday, Mayor Bass Highlights City Resources, Actions to Keep Angelenos Safe
The National Weather Service has extended the Extreme Heat Warning for Los Angeles through Sunday, August 24, at 9 PM due to persistent high temperatures. Mayor Karen Bass urged residents to limit outdoor exposure and utilize city resources to ensure their safety. City departments, including the Emergency Management Department and LAFD, are actively coordinating to respond to residents' needs during the heatwave. Augmented cooling centers, including senior citizen centers and libraries, are available for relief from the heat, operating from 10 AM to 9 PM until Sunday. Public pools and splash pads also remain open during normal hours to provide additional cooling options.
LAFD has pre-deployed firefighting resources in high-hazard areas as a precaution. Residents are encouraged to sign up for NotifyLA. org for timely weather alerts. Safety tips emphasize the importance of hydration and recognizing symptoms of heat-related illnesses.
