Mayor Bass Issues Statement Following Federal Court Ruling that Trump Administration's Deployment of National Guard in Los Angeles was Illegal

Los Angeles, CALocal News

A federal court ruled that the Trump Administration's deployment of National Guard members and Marines in Los Angeles was illegal, affirming Mayor Karen Bass's stance. The ruling cited the Posse Comitatus Act, enacted in 1878, which restricts military involvement in domestic law enforcement. Mayor Bass stated, "Los Angeles will not buckle and we will not break," underscoring the city's commitment to resist federal overreach. The Trump Administration is likely to appeal the decision, which emphasizes the violation of federal law. Since the summer, Mayor Bass has fought against federal immigration raids and has joined lawsuits to protect immigrant communities.

Federal judges have ruled against unlawful racial profiling in these raids. She has also signed an executive directive to strengthen local protocols on immigration enforcement. These initiatives aim to ensure better support for immigrant families in Los Angeles.
