Restoring Community Spaces Local Leaders Announce New Campaign For Palisades-Malibu YMCA as Urgent Rebuilding Efforts Continue Throughout Region

Los Angeles, CALocal News

Mayor Karen Bass announced a $25 million capital campaign to rebuild the Palisades-Malibu YMCA, devastated by January's wildfires. The YMCA, an important center for youth development and community engagement, will be reconstructed to serve the community better. Bass stated that restoring spaces like the Pali Y is vital for the community's healing and resilience. Supervisor Lindsey Horvath added that the YMCA's loss is profoundly felt, and its reconstruction symbolizes recovery and hope. The city has made significant progress in rebuilding, with 445 plans approved for over 300 addresses and debris removal nearly 95% complete.

Utilities were restored rapidly, with water and power back in just two months, compared to much longer timelines in past disasters. The YMCA plans to create a resilient, sustainable dual-campus facility to expand programming and serve more families. This initiative represents a pivotal step in the fastest disaster recovery effort in modern California history.
