Mayor Bass Houses Angelenos From Notorious Van Nuys Encampment We Cannot Accept Angelenos Living on the Street

Los Angeles, CALocal News

Mayor Karen Bass successfully housed more than 30 individuals from a well-known encampment in Van Nuys through her Inside Safe initiative. This program has led to a 17. 5% reduction in street homelessness in Los Angeles since Bass took office in December 2022, representing the largest decline since the Point in Time Count began in 2005. The Mayor stressed the dangers of allowing people to live in hazardous conditions, stating that the cost of inaction is too high for both individuals and the community. Inside Safe has cleared over 100 entrenched encampments throughout the city, demonstrating a commitment to addressing homelessness.

Recent data indicate that permanent housing placements in Los Angeles have reached record levels. Additionally, a RAND Corporation report noted a 49% decrease in street homelessness in Hollywood, linking this trend to the Inside Safe program. With plans to continue monitoring and providing support, Bass aims to sustain and expand this momentum in 2024. Her administration's focus on innovative housing solutions and anti-eviction programs seeks to tackle the root causes of homelessness.
