Mayor Bass Issues New Executive Actions to Further Streamline Palisades Rebuilding
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced two executive actions to expedite rebuilding in Pacific Palisades, six months after January's wildfires. Emergency Executive Order 8 streamlines the permitting process for homeowners looking to rebuild beyond 110% of their previous structures, aligning with California Governor Gavin Newsom's directives. Executive Directive 13 launches a virtual library of pre-approved building designs, allowing residents to access code-compliant plans for faster approvals. The city will call for architects to submit designs for inclusion in this library, which will expand over time. More than 85% of debris removal has been completed, with nearly 300 rebuilding plans approved, marking a significant acceleration compared to past wildfire recovery efforts.
The first permit was issued just 57 days after the wildfires began, illustrating the city's commitment to rapid recovery. Mayor Bass emphasized that while progress is being made, it cannot erase the pain experienced by the community. These initiatives aim to provide a streamlined rebuilding process and restore homes for families affected by the disaster.
