Los Angeles, CALocal News

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced that PlayLA has reached over one million enrollments, three years before the 2028 Olympic Games. The program, funded by a $160 million investment from LA28 and the International Olympic Committee, offers affordable youth and adaptive sports opportunities across the city. During the announcement at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, 17-year-old Paralympic silver medalist Arelle Middleton, a PlayLA alum, highlighted the program's positive impact. Mayor Bass emphasized that the program fosters a legacy of youth development akin to that of the 1984 Olympics. LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover praised the program's rapid enrollment growth, indicating a strong demand for inclusive sports.

The initiative aligns with Bass's commitment to ensuring the Games benefit all Angelenos. Every city recreation and aquatic center offers PlayLA programming, which features over 40 sports options. Young Angelenos can register at laparks. org/play-la, contributing to healthier communities and expanded opportunities.
