Los Angeles is set to host its first-ever Paralympic Games in 2028, with Mayor Karen Bass spearheading initiatives to ensure accessibility for all residents. The city affirmed its commitment by signing an official Games Host City Accessibility Commitment and developing a comprehensive Accessibility Plan. Mayor Bass emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive environment for Angelenos of all abilities, stating that equal access is essential for dignity and inclusion. Councilmember Imelda Padilla reinforced this sentiment by advocating for accessibility to be integrated into every planning phase of the Games. The city collaborated with the Braille Institute to provide Braille translations for displays at City Hall, enhancing accessibility in public spaces.

IPC Chief Paralympic Games Officer Colleen Wrenn noted that the Games will inspire broader societal changes by removing barriers for individuals with disabilities. LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover highlighted the historical significance of the event, as the organizing committee aims to make it the largest Paralympic Games ever. The initiative reflects a commitment to honoring the legacy of the Americans with Disabilities Act on its 35th anniversary.
