Mayor Bass Issues Executive Directive to Support Immigrant Communities

Los Angeles, CALocal News

Mayor Karen Bass has signed an executive directive to bolster protections for Los Angeles' immigrant communities following unlawful federal raids. The directive requires all city departments to enhance their protocols and training to comply with existing laws prohibiting the use of city resources for immigration enforcement, with preparedness plans to be submitted in two weeks. A working group will be established, including representatives from the LAPD, immigrant rights organizations, and community leaders, to inform police practices regarding immigration enforcement activities. The directive also seeks to obtain records from federal agencies concerning the reasons for arrests during these raids and the associated costs. Mayor Bass emphasized her commitment to defending the rights of all residents, stating, "We are a proud city of immigrants.

" The city is pursuing legal action against the Trump Administration to stop unconstitutional raids in the LA area. This directive builds on previous protections, including Special Order 40 and Ordinance 188441, which safeguard immigrant rights in Los Angeles. Mayor Bass asserted that the city will continue to deploy every resource available to support immigrant communities amid increasing federal enforcement.
