6 Months Since Start of Wildfires, Mayor Bass Highlights Recovery Progress, Outlines Priorities for Continued Rebuilding

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced that the city is on track for the fastest wildfire recovery in California's history, following the recent Palisades Fire. Nearly 80% of the 3,450 residential properties affected have been cleared of debris, with 1 million tons removed in record time. The city has issued 165 rebuilding permits just 57 days after the wildfires ignited, showcasing a significant improvement over past recovery efforts. Governor Gavin Newsom emphasized the urgency of the rebuilding phase, while Supervisor Kathryn Barger reiterated the need for determination in this next step. The city plans to streamline permitting and promote innovative rebuilding approaches while maintaining community character.

Additionally, 650 plan check applications have been submitted, with over 220 plans approved. The collaborative efforts among various government levels have been essential for this accelerated recovery. The city’s commitment aims to ensure that the impacted neighborhoods not only recover but also emerge stronger than before.
