Bolstering L.A.s Signature Industry Mayor Bass Joins Governor Newsom To Mark Historic Expansion of Film TV Tax Credit Program
Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom announced the $750 million expansion of California's Film and TV Tax Credit Program to bolster Los Angeles' entertainment industry. This initiative aims to keep production local and protect jobs in Hollywood, where tens of thousands of workers rely on the industry. Bass emphasized the program's significance for local businesses, stating that it supports not just industry professionals but also service providers like restaurants and flower shops. Producer Ellen Goldsmith-Vein commended the legislative achievement, highlighting its potential to improve funding systems for projects of all sizes. To complement this state support, Mayor Bass has issued Executive Directives to lower filming costs and streamline processes for on-location shoots.
She also established an Entertainment Industry Council to leverage industry expertise in policy-making. Additionally, new concierge services for studios and sound stages have cut red tape, assisting in the development of 8. 1 million square feet of creative production space. These efforts collectively strengthen the film workforce and contribute to the economic vitality of Los Angeles.
