The recent Winter Gathering of the Chinook Indian Nation at Clatsop Community College was a vibrant expression of tribal culture, bringing together members of the Chinook tribe and invited guests from the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde. The event was marked by traditional drumming and dancing, showcasing the rich heritage of the Chinook people. Elders and youngsters alike participated, with activities designed to deepen community ties and preserve cultural practices. Notably, a young drummer donned an elaborate button blanket adorned with iconic Chinook symbols, highlighting the importance of cultural regalia. Laughter and joy permeated the atmosphere, particularly as Chinook elder Leane Dague shared moments of happiness during the gathering.

The presence of infants, such as three-month-old Malea Johnson, symbolized the continuity of tradition and the future of the tribe.
