'Bakerloop' bus route launches in autumn, TfL says

London, UKLocal News

The Bakerloop bus route, officially known as the BL1 express service, will connect Waterloo and Lewisham beginning in autumn, as part of TfL's Superloop network expansion. This route mirrors the proposed Bakerloo Tube line extension, including significant stops like Old Kent Road and Burgess Park. A consultation on the BL1 route, which closed on March 14, garnered mostly positive feedback from local residents and stakeholders. Brenda Dacres, Mayor of Lewisham, highlighted the launch as a critical step toward addressing long-standing transport deficiencies in southeast London. The BL1 will operate every 12 minutes during the day, and every 15 minutes in the evenings and on Sundays.

TfL's director of Public Transport Service Planning committed to monitoring services to ensure they meet customer demand. Additionally, TfL has plans for three more routes, with consultations set to begin this autumn. This initiative reflects ongoing efforts to enhance public transportation in the region.
