Tube drug use falls for first time in three years
Drug use incidents on the London Underground fell to 470 in 2024-25, marking the first decline in three years, according to the British Transport Police. This figure represents a decrease from 589 incidents reported the previous year. The data highlighted 63 instances of white powder and 56 cannabis reports, with Hammersmith station leading with seven incidents. Transport for London (TfL) affirmed its commitment to crime reduction and safety across its network, collaborating with policing partners. The BTP noted the positive trend but stressed the necessity for ongoing operations to disrupt drug trafficking and protect vulnerable individuals.
Historical data shows fluctuations in drug use incidents, with 526 reported in 2020-21 and 506 in 2022-23. TfL maintains a presence of police officers and community support staff to deter crime and anti-social behavior. Continued efforts and targeted operations remain essential for maintaining safety on public transport.
