The Barbican Centre in London plans a £240 million renovation of its conservatory, lakeside, and foyers, with construction expected to begin in 2027. This refurbishment aims to complete the work two years ahead of the Centre's 50th anniversary in 2030, addressing the building's noted deterioration. The Centre received over 90% support in an initial consultation, prompting updates to the designs that focus on inclusivity and improved accessibility. Director of Buildings and Renewal, Philippa Simpson, highlighted the public's enthusiasm for the vision that respects the Centre's heritage. The first five-year phase of funding is backed by the City of London Corporation, which has allocated £240 million to the project.

An estimated £451 million is needed for essential works over the next 20-25 years, including infrastructure repairs to meet accessibility and net-zero standards. The second round of consultation for public feedback is set to conclude on June 2. The renovation reflects a commitment to creating a meaningful cultural space for all visitors.
