Water park had no clear warning of deep water

London, UKLocal News

Kyra Hill, an 11-year-old girl from Croydon, tragically drowned at Liquid Leisure water park during a birthday party in August 2022. An inquest revealed that the park failed to provide adequate warnings about deep water, with signs only indicating shallow areas. Stuart Marston, the park's owner, acknowledged the potential for misinterpretation of the signage. Emergency services were called after Kyra was reported missing, but by the time she was found, it was too late. The inquest also revealed that the park did not have enough lifeguards on duty, with one lifeguard overseeing 42 people in the water.

Coroner Heidi Connor noted the emotional difficulty of the inquest for Kyra's family, who mourn the loss of a girl who dreamed of a career in law. Witness accounts described the lake's bottom as "silt and mud," complicating rescue efforts. The hearing continues as questions remain about safety regulations at the water park.
