Most Underground lines normal after power failure

London, UKLocal News

Normal service has resumed on most lines of the London Underground after a power failure caused major disruptions on Monday afternoon. The outage, which occurred around 14:30 BST, affected several lines, including the Elizabeth, Jubilee, District, Northern, Waterloo & City, Circle, and Piccadilly lines, all of which are now operating normally. However, the Metropolitan line still faces severe delays due to the late finish of engineering works at Baker Street. Additionally, the Mildmay line on the London Overground remains partly suspended because of a points failure. The National Grid reported that the power outage led to a fire at an electrical substation in Maida Vale, resulting in the destruction of three meters of high voltage cabling.

Firefighters successfully controlled the blaze, minimizing the damage. The National Grid expressed regret over the inconvenience and ongoing travel issues, stating the fault was resolved within seconds. The incident highlights the vulnerability of urban infrastructure to power disruptions and their cascading effects on public transportation.
