'No water for five days, I want compensation'

London, UKLocal News

Families in southeast London are demanding full compensation from Thames Water after a broken mains pipe left them without water for five days. Residents report inadequate compensation, with many receiving less than they believe they are owed. Nina Segal, a mother from Forest Hill, expressed her frustration, stating her family did not receive any water during the disruption. Thames Water acknowledged that its compensation scheme does not reflect customer experiences accurately. Typically, the company offers £30 for every 12 hours without water, but residents like Cauvery Shelat feel this is insufficient.

She received only £60 for five days without supply, indicating a potential shortfall of £150. Thames Water, which serves about 25% of the UK's population, is struggling with significant debts and outdated infrastructure. The company is under pressure to improve its services and address customer complaints effectively.
