London, UKLocal News

A fire at an electricity substation in Maida Vale, north-west London, spread to a block of flats early Tuesday morning, prompting a large-scale emergency response. The London Fire Brigade reported the successful evacuation of around 80 residents, with no injuries recorded. Firefighters, numbering over 100, battled the blaze, which generated thick clouds of grey smoke and posed significant challenges due to its technical complexity. Local resident Alice Bazzi recounted the frightening experience, describing intense heat and flames that grew higher than nearby trees. UK Power Networks confirmed that the fire was caused by a fault in substation equipment but assured that electricity supply was not disrupted.

Firefighting operations are expected to continue to ensure complete extinguishment of the flames. The London Fire Brigade received more than 170 calls regarding the incident, highlighting its visibility from the surrounding area. A scientific adviser is monitoring air quality to safeguard local residents.
