Knightsbridge station now step-free with new lifts

London, UKLocal News

A new step-free entrance and three lifts have been added to Knightsbridge Tube station, significantly enhancing accessibility for travelers. Located on Hooper's Court, the entrance allows street-to-platform access for the first time in nearly a century. Knightsbridge sees over 13 million journeys each year, with visitors heading to well-known sites like Harrods and Hyde Park. Transport for London (TfL) confirmed that this development makes Knightsbridge the 93rd station on the Tube network to offer step-free access. Passengers who do not need step-free access are encouraged to use the main entrance on Brompton Road.

The redevelopment also reopened parts of the station that had been closed since the 1930s. TfL has restored architectural features while modernizing other areas, balancing historical preservation with contemporary needs. The agency plans to provide step-free access at half of the Tube stations by 2030.
