Retired London ambulances donated to Ukraine

London, UKLocal News

The London Ambulance Service has donated 59 retired ambulances to Ukraine since the war began in 2022, providing crucial support for civilians injured in conflict zones. The latest delivery of nine ambulances has reached the frontline, facilitated by the charity British-Ukrainian Aid. Chris Rutherford from LAS emphasized the service's pride in helping, as the ambulances are no longer operational in London but can still be life-saving in Ukraine. The initial batch of 10 ambulances included medical supplies and was delivered by volunteers who drove 1,100 miles to Poland for border crossing into Ukraine. Since then, Ukrainian drivers have taken over the logistics, ensuring the ambulances are distributed effectively.

The LAS has upgraded to a fleet of greener vehicles, allowing these retired units to contribute to humanitarian efforts. Nadia Pylypchuk noted that every piece of equipment matters in Ukraine, underscoring the significance of these donations. The initiative highlights the ongoing support for Ukraine amid the conflict and the collaborative efforts of various organizations.
