Van still stuck in stacked car park despite repair

London, UKLocal News

A mechanical car park in Rathbone Square, central London, has trapped HCS Furniture's van since December 2022, even though repairs were declared complete on March 15, 2025. The maintenance company, Double Parking Systems, cited delays in sourcing specialized parts for the prolonged issue. Co-owner Steve Davies has voiced his frustration over the lack of communication and accountability from CBRE, the management firm overseeing the car park. He expressed concerns about the escalating costs, totaling over £40,000, due to the inability to claim insurance until the van is released. Two residents confirmed that their vehicles are also trapped, with estimates suggesting around 40 vehicles remain stuck.

The situation has raised questions about the insurance processes, as Davies noted that liability determination has complicated the retrieval. Both Double Parking Systems and KLAUS Multiparking, the installation company, emphasized their limited roles and the challenges faced in expediting repairs. As affected owners await updates, the community remains hopeful for a swift resolution to restore normalcy.
