Medics labelled stroke patient drunk, partner says
Ion Chiperi, 22, suffered a stroke after paramedics misdiagnosed him as drunk during a call to their London home. His partner, Doina Prisacaru, reported the paramedics dismissed her concerns about his condition, leading to a tragic delay in treatment. Hours later, she found him unresponsive and called another ambulance, which took him to Queen's Hospital. Initially, medical staff continued to treat him as intoxicated until scans revealed a life-threatening blood clot in his brain. The London Ambulance Service stated it takes concerns about its care "extremely seriously" and will investigate the incident thoroughly.
Ms. Prisacaru, who is pregnant, expressed distress over the situation and fears for her partner's recovery. After waking from a coma, Mr. Chiperi can only communicate through blinking, leaving his future uncertain. Hospital officials admitted they should have referred him to a specialist team sooner, potentially mitigating the severity of his condition.
