Ex-Met Police officer on trial for new sex offences
David Carrick, aged 50, faces serious allegations of sexual offences, including the molestation of a girl between 12 and 14 years old in the late 1980s and the rape of a university student from 2014 to 2019. The prosecutor, Tom Little KC, emphasized Carrick's history as a convicted sex offender, detailing 71 instances of sexual violence against 12 different women over a span of 17 years. Carrick has denied charges of sexual assault and coercive behavior but has previously admitted to a range of sexual offences. The trial highlights a pattern of predatory behavior, as both victims reported similar abusive tactics. One victim described an incident where Carrick pinned her down and raped her, while the other recounted his controlling nature that included name-calling and physical threats.
Carrick was still serving as a police officer during these offences, raising concerns about systemic issues within the police force. The trial has attracted significant public interest, given Carrick's former role in law enforcement. The court proceedings are currently adjourned until Wednesday.
