Afghan man in court after man dies in knife attack

London, UKLocal News

Safi Dawood, a 22-year-old Afghan refugee, stands accused of murdering Wayne Broadhurst, 49, during a knife attack in Uxbridge, London, on October 27. Dawood allegedly stabbed Broadhurst multiple times while he walked his dog, leading to Broadhurst's death at the scene despite medical efforts. The attack also resulted in serious injuries to Dawood's landlord, Shahzad Farrukh, 45, and a 14-year-old boy, both of whom were attacked during the incident. Prosecutor Deanna Heer KC detailed that Dawood was armed with a large knife when his landlord confronted him, prompting Dawood's violent outburst. Following the attack, Dawood was arrested near the scene and charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of an offensive weapon.

He remains in custody as the court scheduled a plea hearing for January 12, 2026, and a provisional trial date for July 20, 2026. Dawood's refugee status allows him to remain in the UK until 2027, raising questions about the implications of such violent incidents involving migrants. The case has garnered significant local attention due to its shocking nature and the impact on the Uxbridge community.
