Baby dies after 'hazardous materials' incident
A one-year-old child died following a hazardous materials incident at a flat in Upton Park, East London, on Tuesday. Two adults and two children were hospitalized after experiencing symptoms related to chemical exposure. The London Fire Brigade evacuated approximately 12 residents as a safety measure and performed a systematic sweep of the property to identify hazardous materials. Firefighters were dispatched shortly before 13:20 GMT, and the incident was resolved by 16:25. A council spokesperson offered condolences to the grieving family and confirmed that evacuated residents are being provided with care.
The Metropolitan Police are leading the investigation, with support from the fire brigade, as they seek to understand the incident's nature. As of now, the exact cause of the chemical smell is still under investigation. Such incidents raise concerns about public safety and the handling of hazardous materials in residential areas.
