Charity urges removal of Tube cat travel video
Transport for London (TfL) faces criticism from the Cats Protection charity over a social media video suggesting cat owners travel with their pets on public transport. The video showcases cats in backpack-style carriers on the Elizabeth line, prompting the charity to label the advice as "shocking" and potentially harmful. A TfL representative confirmed that animals are allowed on the network but must comply with specific safety guidelines. Cats Protection argues that the busy and noisy environment of the Underground is inappropriate for cats, emphasizing the welfare risks involved. The charity has formally requested the removal of the video, fearing it may encourage more people to subject their cats to stressful travel conditions.
Additionally, the organization advises that safe carriers should be used for necessary trips, rather than backpacks or leads, which can restrict a cat's natural behaviors. Sarah Elliott, a veterinary officer at Cats Protection, noted that these practices could escalate stress levels in cats. The ongoing discourse highlights the need for responsible pet travel practices in urban settings.
