London Air Ambulance marks a year with new aircraft
London's Air Ambulance charity celebrated the first anniversary of its Airbus H135 helicopters, which were purchased through a £16 million fundraising initiative. The new helicopters offer improved speed, fuel efficiency, and landing capabilities in urban environments. They also support the charity's Endovascular Cardiac Arrest Team (ECAT) trial, marking the UK's first airborne intervention for cardiac arrest patients. Chief pilot Capt Sam Tompkins highlighted the helicopters' role in delivering critical care to patients in urgent need. Dr.
Anna Dobbie, the clinical lead, acknowledged the invaluable support from the London community that enabled this advancement. Over the lifespan of the aircraft, the charity plans to adapt its services to address the evolving challenges of a growing city. The successful fundraising effort underscores the community's commitment to enhancing emergency medical services. The charity's focus on innovation aims to improve outcomes for patients during life-threatening situations.
