Sacked Met officer jailed for 16 years for rapes
Jake Cummings, a 26-year-old former Metropolitan Police constable, received a 16-year prison sentence for his convictions of rape, coercive behavior, voyeurism, and stalking involving three women. The offenses occurred over a five-year period, while Cummings served as a police officer in London and as a special constable in Dorset. During sentencing, Judge Bilal Siddique emphasized that Cummings' actions constituted a "campaign of abuse" and highlighted his manipulation of the victims due to his police authority. The investigation began in February 2024 when a victim reported Cummings, prompting two more women to come forward. Cummings was found guilty of coercive and controlling behavior in October 2024 and convicted of two rapes in a retrial in July 2025.
The judge mandated that Cummings must serve two-thirds of his sentence before parole eligibility. Hertfordshire Police stated that Cummings' oppressive behavior significantly impacted the victims' mental health, leading to feelings of depression and fear. Neil Vaughan from the Crown Prosecution Service noted that Cummings believed he was above the law, but his convictions demonstrated otherwise.
