Abdelrahmen Adnan Abouelela, an illegal asylum seeker, was sentenced to eight and a half years for raping a woman in Hyde Park. The incident occurred in November 2024 when he lured the victim to a secluded area while she was walking home alone. Judge Gregory Perrins condemned Abouelela for exploiting the victim's vulnerability, emphasizing that he acted solely on his sexual desires. Abouelela, who arrived in the UK in April 2023, claims he was a political prisoner in Egypt. His wife and son live in Turkey, highlighting his complicated personal circumstances.

The court commended the victim for her bravery in testifying against him. Abouelela was convicted of rape on May 22, following a trial at Southwark Crown Court. An automatic deportation order will be enacted due to the length of his sentence, underscoring the legal consequences of his actions.
