Treasure hunt to mark Central line's 125th birthday
A treasure hunt will mark the 125th anniversary of London's Central line on September 20, 2025, as part of the Open House Festival. Starting at Shepherd's Bush station at 10:30 BST, participants will follow the original route to Bank, engaging with the line’s rich history through clues found at each station. Transport for London (TfL) organizes the free event, providing clue packs that encourage exploration of the architecture and design of the stations. TfL Ambassadors will be present to guide participants and check their progress. The Central line, which opened in 1900 and is the longest on the Underground, has evolved significantly, extending east to Liverpool Street and west to Ealing Broadway.
It remains vital for over 300 million journeys annually, making it the third-busiest line. Notable historic stations include Grade I listed Bank and Grade II listed Notting Hill Gate. This treasure hunt aims to connect Londoners with their city's architectural heritage while celebrating a significant milestone in its transit history.
