Man in court charged with attacks on north London synagogues

London, UKLocal News

Ionut-Cristian Bold, 37, pleaded not guilty to six counts of racially or religiously aggravated criminal damage related to vandalism at synagogues in north London. The alleged incidents occurred between April and September, involving damage to synagogue gates and walls. Bold, a Romanian national with no previous convictions, was living in a squat at the time of his arrest. Prosecutor Penny Ferguson raised concerns about his risk of fleeing, as his Romanian passport remains unaccounted for. His defense team emphasized the need for a mental health assessment, noting he has lived in the UK for 11 years and has a child in China.

Deputy District Judge Rebecca Saillet remanded him in custody over mental health concerns and for his own protection. This case highlights ongoing issues of racial and religious tensions in the community. Bold's next court date is scheduled for October 13 at Harrow Crown Court.
