Notting Hill Carnival revellers party in the sunny streets
The Notting Hill Carnival celebrated Caribbean culture with over a million attendees in west London, filling the streets with music and colorful costumes. Performers included bands from Brazil and various Caribbean nations, reflecting the event's rich multicultural heritage. Despite 423 arrests reported by police, incidents of serious violence decreased from previous years, with only two non-life-threatening stabbings noted. Carnival chair Ian Comfort stressed the critical need for government funding to ensure the event's safety and continuation. He warned that lack of support could hinder the quality of costumes and the overall carnival experience.
Many attendees expressed their appreciation for the cultural unity fostered by the event, with visitors from across the UK and beyond participating. Comfort called for greater awareness of the carnival's history and significance in bringing communities together. The carnival concluded with sound systems and live music, maintaining its status as Europe's largest street party.
