Twin Lamborghinis seized in supercar crackdown

London, UKLocal News

The Metropolitan Police executed a three-day operation that resulted in the seizure of 72 luxury vehicles, valued at £6 million, to tackle dangerous driving in central London. Officers issued tickets for various motoring offences, including driving without insurance and using fraudulent number plates. The operation led to eight arrests, including one individual wanted for actual bodily harm and another charged with possession of a Class B drug. Police highlighted the connection between uninsured driving and serious criminal activities, such as drug running and money laundering. Some of the seized vehicles had been flown into the UK, with drivers using home country insurance policies without verifying UK coverage.

Andy Trotter from the Motor Insurers' Bureau stated that uninsured drivers cause harm every 20 minutes in the UK. Special Chief Officer James Deller noted the operation was a response to community concerns about high-value vehicles causing disturbances. Last year, a similar operation resulted in £60 million worth of vehicles being seized, primarily due to insurance violations.
