City of Lewisville Commissions Artist for Public Art Project at Library

Lewisville, TXLocal News

The City of Lewisville has commissioned artist Michele Gutlove from Massachusetts-based Studio GH to create a large-scale art installation for the Lewisville Public Library, enhancing the cultural landscape of the area. Selected from over 200 applicants, Gutlove brings two decades of experience and a portfolio of more than 50 public and private art commissions both domestically and internationally. Her upcoming project, titled "Luminous," will be inspired by the natural beauty surrounding Lewisville, particularly the features of Lewisville Lake and the Blackland Prairie. The installation will prominently feature tall, custom glass pieces that will wrap around a column in the library's atrium, complemented by smaller glass elements that will hang from the ceiling, symbolizing air and the reflections of water. In addition to the main installation, a smaller satellite piece will be installed on the second floor of the library.

The project aligns with the city's 2025 vision plan, which emphasizes the incorporation of public art in civic facilities. Installation is anticipated to take place in early 2025, generating excitement in the local community. Examples of Gutlove's prior work can be viewed on her studio's website, showcasing her innovative approach to glass art.
