The Chelan-Douglas Regional Port Authority's Trades District Project has garnered acclaim at the 2025 Washington Economic Development Association Awards, receiving an Innovation in Economic Development award. This initiative includes 12 incubator spaces, ranging from 1,584 to 2,175 square feet, designed to support local entrepreneurs. Brooke Lammert, Economic Development Specialist, highlighted the project as a launching pad for small businesses and a long-term investment in regional economic vitality. The Trades District's success is largely due to its collaborative approach, partnering with organizations like the Small Business Development Center and the Hispanic Business Council, which help entrepreneurs from underserved communities. The Washington Economic Development Association recognizes outstanding achievements in the field, and this year's awards saw a record number of nominations.

WEDA Board Chair Betty Capestany noted the tireless efforts of economic development leaders across the state. The Trades District Project shares its award with the Clallam Forest Product Innovation Program, illustrating the diversity of impactful initiatives in Washington. This recognition underscores the importance of innovative economic strategies in fostering community growth and sustainability.
