We need more buildings Lake Stevens to try same 314M school bond

Lake Stevens, WALocal News

The Lake Stevens School District is revisiting its proposal for a $314 million school bond after a close defeat in the previous election, where it garnered 58. 34% of the required votes. This bond is critical for constructing new educational facilities and modernizing existing ones to accommodate rapid population growth in the area. Superintendent Mary Templeton highlighted that around 2,000 new homes are either being built or planned, with projections suggesting an influx of 13,000 additional residents in five years. The bond will facilitate the construction of a new elementary school, updates to Glenwood and Skyline elementary schools, and the development of a secondary innovative learning center at Mt.

Pilchuck Elementary. This initiative aims to provide career opportunities for students and address the current reliance on temporary classrooms due to increased enrollment. Templeton noted that improved school environments contribute positively to student attendance and engagement. The bond election is scheduled for February 11, and passing it would also enable the district to apply for up to $60 million in state funding for school construction. Delaying the bond could lead to increased costs for necessary upgrades, making the timely approval crucial.
