Good Samaritan jumps in to help save elderly woman in Lake Stevens

An elderly woman experienced a life-threatening incident when she accidentally drove into Lake Stevens after making a wrong turn in dark and foggy conditions. The event occurred around 8:10 p. m. , prompting a swift response from Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue. A good Samaritan, witnessing the car sinking, called 911 and bravely entered the frigid 40-degree water to assist the trapped driver.

Firefighters praised the Samaritan's quick thinking and decisive action, stating that without this intervention, the driver may not have escaped the vehicle. Upon arrival, rescuers found the car approximately 100 feet from the shore, with the elderly woman still inside. Both the driver and the Samaritan received treatment for cold water exposure after the rescue. This incident underscores the importance of community awareness and readiness in emergency situations, especially during adverse weather conditions. Firefighters stressed safety tips for drivers, advising them on what to do if their vehicle enters the water, emphasizing the need to remain calm and prioritize escape.
