SR 104 Closure Near 35th Ave NE for Lyon Creek Fish Passage Begins Sept. 2 5-Week Detour in Place

Lake Forest Park, WALocal News

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) plans to close all lanes of SR 104 near 35th Avenue NE starting Sept. 2 for approximately 35 days as part of the Lyon Creek Fish Passage Project. This closure will enable the removal of an outdated culvert, installation of a larger replacement structure, and enhancements to the streambed and habitat. The project follows several weeks of preliminary work, including significant sanitary sewer upgrades in the area and the demolition of the former Ballinger Automotive building, which took place from Aug. 4.

During the closure, a detour will guide travelers via 35th Avenue NE and NE 190th Street, while local access on Ballinger Way NE will continue up to just west of 35th Avenue NE. WSDOT acknowledges the disruption but stresses the importance of these improvements for local ecosystems and infrastructure. The project aims to provide lasting environmental benefits once completed. Community members are encouraged to remain patient during this critical phase. Past improvements in similar projects have shown significant positive impacts on local wildlife and water quality.
