Reminder No Campaigning on the Levy Measure During Council Meetings

Lake Forest Park, WALocal News

Washington law (RCW 42. 17A. 555) prohibits campaigning for or against ballot measures during City Council meetings, including the Public Comment period. This means that residents cannot express support or opposition to the proposed levy lid lift within official city forums. They are, however, free to share their opinions using personal resources outside of these meetings.

The City Clerk, Matt McLean, is available for questions regarding the law's implications. Maintaining neutrality in governmental proceedings is paramount, and this measure ensures that public facilities remain unbiased. The law aims to prevent the misuse of public resources for campaigning purposes. Violations of this law could have repercussions for individuals attempting to influence council decisions during meetings. Understanding these regulations allows citizens to engage appropriately in local governance.
