Construction set to begin June 30 on SR 104 Lyon Creek fish passage project

Lake Forest Park, WALocal News

Construction set to begin on June 30 will replace a culvert along Lyon Creek beneath SR 104 in Lake Forest Park, facilitating fish passage. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) oversees this project, which aims to improve access to 7. 5 miles of habitat for various fish species, including Chinook and coho. Traffic control measures, including overnight single-lane closures on 35th Avenue Northeast, will start on July 7. Around Labor Day, a full closure of SR 104 is planned for 35 days, with a signed detour for vehicles, pedestrians, and transit.

WSDOT plans to share specific closure dates as they become available, ensuring the public stays informed. The existing culvert, which prevents fish from passing, will be replaced with a 24-foot-wide concrete structure. This effort not only enhances fish passage but also improves habitat within Lyon Creek, flowing from Snohomish County into Lake Washington. The project reflects WSDOT’s commitment to preserving local ecosystems and supporting fish populations.
