La Conner, WALocal News

La Conner High School's basketball teams are poised to make a strong showing in the bi-district tournament, starting with home games this week. The boys' team, seeded No. 3, will take on Orcas Island on February 13 at 6 p. m. in Landy James Gym, following a regular season marked by close contests, including two narrow victories against Orcas.

Head Coach Lance Lopez emphasizes the importance of a focused game plan, noting that the Vikings' record doesn't fully reflect their competitive nature. On February 15, the girls' team, seeded No. 2, will compete against the winner of a match between Friday Harbor and Orcas Island. Coach Joe Harper is optimistic about his young team, which has no seniors, leveraging the experience gained from their recent near-upset against a top-ranked program. Both coaches recognize the significance of these games, as a win would propel them further in the tournament, with the girls potentially playing again on February 20.

The La Conner community is excitedly supporting their teams, eager to see them advance in the postseason. Local fans are hopeful that the teams can translate their hard work into success on the court.
